The controversial Decision Review System will no longer be mandatory in all international fixtures as ICC has taken a U-turn by ending it's mandatory use and now it's use will be depend on the participating boards.

The ICC has taken this important decision in its fourth and last Executive Board meeting of the year in Dubai.

"Although the DRS improves correct umpire decisions by around five percent and corrects any blatant errors, there are some who are not convinced by its reliability," ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said.

The recent India-England series had sparked the DRS controversy yet again when wrong decisions being made by DRS particularly against Rahul Dravid.

Earlier in June, The ICC had made DRS mandatory for Tests and ODIs but only with two technologies -- Hot Spot and Snickometer. The use of the Hawk-Eye ball tracking technology was depend on both boards in the bilateral series.

The pressure of reversing its decision was huge on ICC as influential BCCI, who has always opposed controversial DRS, has already declared that DRS will not be used in India's upcoming five match ODI series against England, starting from 14th October.

"We will continue to work with interested parties to improve the system while permitting the participating teams to decide whether they wish to use it or not," Lorgat said.
