Australia has named the 14-man squad for the first the one-dayers of the forthcoming tri-series against India and Sri Lanka. Out-of-form left-handed batsman Shaun Marsh has been dropped from the squad.
Uncapped Queensland batsman Peter Forrest has replaced Shaun Marsh, who scored just 17 runs in eight innings in the recently concluded Test series against India.
"Shaun Marsh is obviously disappointed with his own form in recent weeks and is out of the side but remains in our thinking for the future while he works at state level - as they say, class is permanent but form can be temporary," chairman of selectors John Inverarity said.
Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin was rested after having a ordinary Test series with bat and Matthew Wade would handle the gloves work behind the stumps.
All-rounder Shane Watson has been sidelined yet again due to an injury and Australian selectors haven't named a vice captain for the first three ODIs of the tri-series.
"We have not at this stage named a vice-captain for the first three games with Brad resting and Shane Watson still unavailable while he completes his recovery from injury, and will assess that position when the squad assembles,"
"Brad Haddin has come off a heavy programme of Test cricket. The workload for a wicketkeeper/batsman is rigorous and resting him for the start of the series will refresh him for coming international commitments while also giving us a chance to look at Matt Wade at this level," said Inverarity.
Pacer Ryan Harris was also rewarded for his impressive performance in the last two Tests against India. Experienced pacer Brett Lee will spearhead the Australian bowling attack.
Australia will take on India in the tri-series opener on 5th Feb at Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG).
Squad: Michael Clarke (captain), Dan Christian, Xavier Doherty, Peter Forrest, Ryan Harris, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Brett Lee, Mitchell Marsh, Clint McKay, Ricky Ponting, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, David Warner.
