2nd T20I - Australia v India
Gambhir and Jadeja star in India's first win in Australia
 |
Atlast India managed to win a game in Australia. Ravindra Jadeja was the star performer effecting 2 run outs and also a wicket. |
India – 135/3 in 19.4 over
Australia – 131 all out in 19.4 over
The par score was 170 on a very good batting wicket and when Australia raced to 18 off the first 2 overs, they seemed to be on course for that score. However, Praveen Kumar came back to pick 2 wickets in the same over, with Warner top edging a pull and then Shaun Marsh edging one to first slip. Finch and Hussey tried to put on a good partnership, but Indian fielding was sensational today. After Gambhir took a good back pedalling catch, it was Jadeja's turn to collect the ball at point and power a good throw over the bails to find the in form Finch way out of the crease. Australia never looked to recover from that.
Another good piece of fielding saw the Aussie skipper Bailey out of the crease and the Australian score was not going anywhere. Jadeja who would later go on to win the MoM award and rightly so, deceived Hussey in the flight for an easy caught and bowled chance to wreck the innings further. Wade gave the score some respectability with a couple of powerful shots, but was the victim of another piece of good fielding, this time from Rohit Sharma, who got the direct hit going to get Wade out. Between a flashy stumping by Dhoni, another good throw from Raina and good bowling at the death, India managed to keep Australia to 132, which was a very manageable score.
Sehwag and Gambhir came out to open India's innings after Australia got all out on score of 131. Sehwag seemed to have change of attitude and looked determined to stay on the crease. Gambhir also looked a lot positive and played from middle of the bat. Clint McKay shared the new ball with Brett Lee for Australia. Sehwag flicked one delivery off his pads to get off the mark. Gambhir at other end got off the mark in streakly, whipping delivery off the pads.
Sehwag launched one delivery into the stands off Doherty's bowling. Sehwag however was out soon, caught at covers off Hogg's bowling. Kohli joined Gambhir in the middle and they both established a good partnership. They both showcased very good running between the wickets and kept converting single into doubles and doubles into three. Kohli was caught behind the stumsp off Marsh's bowling on individual score of 31.
Indian captain Dhoni promoted himself at number four and set up a good partnership with Gambhir who was not out from the beginning. Dhoni accompanied Gambhir in stealing quick singles and played odd boundary shot. There was a bit of drama at the end of the match with India requiring one run to win off 8 deliveries but 5 deliveries were dot balls. In the end, Gambhir hit the boundary between mid on and midwicket to take India home.
